Thousands of trees are planned to be planted in 2011 through Tree Sense. This urban reforestation project is delivered through elementary school students, girl guides/boy scouts groups, Cadets and other groups and individuals. Tree Sense includes educational messaging about how trees reduce environmental impacts, deliver green house gas reduction, and affect climate change. Urban reforestation can reduce the greenhouse effect by shading our homes and office buildings. This reduces air conditioning needs and subsequent energy production. A single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of approximately 28 kg / year and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support two human beings.
