Carbon Offsetting & Credits
Offset = a reduction or removal in GHG emissions from a project that features a new management practice, technology and/or control system. Other terms include 'offset credit', 'carbon credit' and 'credit'.
In Canada, One Carbon Credit or Offset is equal to one metric ton of Carbon.
Companies and individuals may opt to purchase carbon credits to off-set their personal or business carbon footprint. This carbon trading practice is relatively new and very confusing to most people.
Climate Sense only promotes carbon off-set projects that are kept within BC and keeps climate protection first. Carbon offsets need to be high quality in order to have any benefit for the climate. It's better to buy fewer, higher-quality offsets, rather than a greater number of lower-quality ones. Vendor claims of offset quality are carefully considered.
